SAN FRANCISCO – David Haynes, 49, has joined Financial Technology Ventures (FTVentures), the San Francisco-based venture firm that primarily invests in technologies that benefit the financial services industry, as its Administrative Partner. He becomes the sixth partner at the firm, which was founded in 1998.
Haynes will be responsible for legal, financial and other administrative functions at FTVentures. He comes well prepared, with more than 20 years of experience as an executive, director and general counsel building growth companies in the financial services and technology industries from entrepreneurial visions.
“I’m looking forward to joining former colleagues, as well as leveraging my 23 years in financial technologies with FTVentures, the premier firm in this space,” said Haynes. “The funds of FTVentures are truly differentiated due to the firm’s strong ties with its limited partners, 39 of the world’s leading financial institutions. These partnerships give FTVentures a rare window into the long term business needs of global financial services, thus helping our firm to crystallize thoughtful, well-informed investment decisions and add unique value to our portfolio companies.”
Haynes has most recently advised financial services and technology firms, offering board and executive management expertise in the areas of business development, corporate finance and corporate governance. Between 1999 and 2001, Haynes had been executive vice president and general counsel of OffRoad, Inc., a pioneering business offering private securities over the Internet. Prior to that he was executive vice president and general counsel at Examen Inc., a national legal resource management company. He was with Montgomery Securities during a 10-year period of its rapid growth, with primary responsibilities for legal affairs in corporate finance, venture capital, asset management and new business development. His private legal practice experience was with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison in Palo Alto and San Francisco. Haynes has a JD from the Boalt Hall School of Law; an MBA from the Haas Graduate School of Business; and a BS in Mechanical Engineering, all from the University of California, Berkeley.
